About Me

A Taste of Home

Welcome to my kitchen! I’m Myung-Chul and I’ve spent over 20 years in the kitchen, but my real training didn’t happen in a professional culinary school; it happened at home, cooking for my family. My culinary identity is a bridge between two distinct regions of Korea, shaped deeply by the women who taught me everything I know. I was shaped by the bold, soulful flavors of my mother’s cooking in my hometown of South Jeolla Province (전라남도). That foundation was eventually met by the elegant, balanced influence of my Seoul-native mother-in-law. Their combined wisdom has taught me that Korean food is more than just flavor; it’s a collection of regional stories and deep-seated respect for tradition.

While I cherish these traditions, I also know that authentic Korean recipes can be incredibly labor-intensive. As a busy home cook, I’ve learned to embrace the “smart shortcut” without sacrificing the soul of the meal. I am a firm believer that ingredients like MSG get a bad reputation they don’t deserve; when used correctly, they are the secret to achieving that deep, savory umami that usually takes hours of simmering to develop. My philosophy is simple: if a shortcut helps you bring a delicious, authentic-tasting meal to your family on a weeknight, you should take it.

Through Gochujang.site, I want to show you that cooking Korean food doesn’t have to be a daunting, all-day affair. My recipes combine years of home-cooking intuition with the heart and soul of my family’s heritage. Whether you’re a seasoned pro or picking up a jar of gochujang for the first time, my goal is to help you master the flavors of Seoul and the Jeolla region with ease—one shortcut at a time.
